This is an often asked question:

How much caffeine is in Coke and Diet Coke?

The answer is that there is 34 milligrams of caffeine in a can of regular Coca Cola and 46 milligrams of caffeine in a can of Diet Coke.

It is surprising to note that there is more caffeine in Diet Coke than Regular Coke.

So, why is there more caffeine in Diet Coke than regular coffee?

Interestingly, we cannot see any comments from Coca Cola themselves why there is significantly more caffeine in Diet Coke than regular Coke – over 35% more caffeine!

But, from some internet research, there are some suggestions that more caffeine is added to Diet Coke in order to improve the taste and “strength” of Diet Coke versus regular Coke, though we cannot conclude that as there are no firm confirmations from Coca Cola.

How does caffeine levels of Coke compare with other caffeinated drinks?

People often think that Coca Cola has a lot of caffeine in it, but actually, if you compare with other caffeinated drinks, such as coffee, there is not that much caffeine.

So, for let’s say we compare 8 ounces of drink, how do other drinks compare in caffeine content:

Coke – 21 milligrams of caffeine

Diet Coke – 28 milligrams of caffeine

Green tea – 35 milligrams of caffeine

Energy drinks – 77 milligrams of caffeine

Coffee – 95 milligrams of caffeine
