Decadent Decaf Wins Three Great Taste Awards 2017

We are delighted to announce that Decadent Decaf Coffee Company has won three Great Taste Awards this year for our Swiss Water Decaf decaffeinated roast coffees, as follows:

Costa Rica Strictly Hard Bean Swiss Water Decaf Decaffeinated Coffee Beans - Great Taste Award - 1 Star

Great Taste Award Judges Comments:

A good looking, sweet-smelling bean, not over-roasted. Judges found a floral, perfumed note and a slightly caramelised sweetness.  A characterful coffee with rich mouthfeel and several levels of flavour.  A long, fruity finish with a pleasant sourness, slight prune flavour.

Indonesia Sumatra Mandheling Swiss Water Decaf Decaffeinated Coffee Beans - Great Taste Award - 1 Star

Great Taste Award Judges Comments:

A distinct tobacco almost tar-y/rubbery flavour, with liquorice tones.  An interesting flavour profile with a fruity high note.  A good length of flavour, with pleasing richness in the mouth.  The judges found the earthiness, but approved of it.

Signature Espresso Blend Swiss Water Decaf Decaffeinated Coffee Beans - Great Taste Award - 1 Star

Great Taste Award Judges Comments:

A lovely crema on extraction. A clean start with a citrus, fruity zing and nice bitterness, but judges found that this disappeared too quickly. The judges were left with some good ash flavours and a pleasant dry, caramel finish.  One judge identified that this delivered good espresso characteristics as a decaf.

About the Great Taste Awards:

Great Taste is the world’s largest and most trusted fully independent food and drink awards.

Putting your food or drink to the test with our panel of over 500 experts is a quick way to get honest, straightforward and impartial feedback from chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers. Whether your product receives a 1-, 2- or 3-star accolade, Great Taste stars are highly respected seals of approval.

Over 500 judges working in small teams judged 12,366 food and drink products this year at 62 judging days, from March through to early July.  They awarded one-, two or three-stars to the foods that deserved it and one of the judges on each team captured constructive feedback for the producers who didn’t quite make the grade.

Each year we take our judging roadshow somewhere different. This year saw us pack up from HQ and take the Great Taste team to Llandrillo College, north Wales. But more than that in April we opened our new judging, training and event space close Borough Market, London and we conducted three weeks of judging there in 2017.  This is a permanent home in London for all Guild of Fine Food activities and will be available to hire for other food and drink businesses. As ever we judged at specialist test centres for tea, filter coffee and espresso with the remainder of the judging days at Guild HQ in Dorset.
